AROUND THE WORLD IN MUSIC

Brian E. Paulson, award-winning composer, multi-instrumentalist and recording artist is bringing the world of sound to students everywhere. AROUND THE WORLD IN MUSIC is an exciting program which brings global awareness by presenting instruments and music from around the planet.

For an educational and fun mix of exotic sound and music, students can see and hear the diverse instruments of many cultures. They will learn how the instruments are made and used to create sound to celebrate the joy of music. This program will stimulate the imagination and increase their appreciation for other cultures.

For 30 years, Brian has collected and performed on his growing museum of instruments. Quite literally, he is a ‘one man global band’. During programs such as this, Brian demonstrates instruments such as Native American flutes and rattles, Australian Didgeridoo and bull-roarer, Indonesian rain-stick, African kalimba and slit drums, Cuban Tubano and bongos, Bolivian quenacho, Peruvian panpipes, Chinese gongs, Irish pennywhistles, Vietnamese Sanh Sua, Hawaiian Xaphoon, Pakistani shanai whistles, and a Tibetan Damaru. In addition, he brings a variety of other instruments such as the nose flute, bowed psaltery, synthesizers, samplers, and miscellaneous home-made instruments.

Length of concert or workshop can vary according to the needs of the school system. A partial listing of school performance includes: IPS School 54, North Central middle school (Indianapolis), Spencer Elementary (Spencer County), Salem Elementary (Washington County), and Muncie schools.

Brian’s work has been featured on WISH TV 8 Indiana’s Own, and Dick Wolfsie’s Morning Show (3/31/98), as well as articles in various publications such as Arts Indiana, Indianapolis Star, Nuvo (10/27/93), IUPUI Sagamore (11/3/97), and Keyboard Magazine (9/93).
